Adopting a puppy
Bringing a puppy into your life is a long-term commitment.
We take the time to get to know our future families and make sure that an Edelwolf is the right fit for your lifestyle and expectations.
Our puppies are not placed on a first-come, first-served basis. Each puppy is unique, and so it every family.
We focus on building lasting relationships and a strong community. Our support doesn’t end when the puppy leaves. This is only the beginning of the journey.
Our adoption process
Getting to know each other
First, reach out and tell us a little about yourself, your situation and what attracts you to our dogs.
Applicants from Switzerland and nearby are invited to visit us and complete our adoption questionnaire. For foreign applicants, a video call can be arranged. This gives us the opportunity to discover each other and determine whether an Edelwolf is truly the right fit.
Joining the waiting list
If we feel an Edelwolf could be a good match for you, and you’d like to continue with us, you’ll be added to our waiting list and kept informed. Joining the list is free and there is no deposit or commitment at this stage.
You are free to join other waiting lists, but we’d like to stay informed about it. If you don’t wish to continue with us for any reason, please tell us as soon as possible.
Welcoming a new litter
Once the puppies are born, we review the waiting list and identify the families that are the best match for this particular litter. Selected families are invited to reserve a puppy with a non-refundable deposit and added to the litter’s dedicated Whatsapp group.
Future owners are welcome and encouraged to visit the puppies regularly and take part in socialization activities.
Finding the right match
As the puppies grow, we carefully observe their temperaments and individual qualities. We match each puppy to the family whose lifestyle, experience and expectations best fit them, taking the applicants’ preferences into account.
Around 2 weeks of age, each puppy receives an Embark genetic test, and results are available around 7 weeks. Select puppies may be assigned under a breeding partnership to applicants wishing to take an active part in the future of the project.
Going home… and beyond
When the big day finally arrives, your puppy goes home with you along with all the necessary documents, a starter pack, food for the transition and our lifetime support.
But you’re not just taking home a puppy—you’re joining the House of the Wolf family. Through our community, owners can stay connected, help one another, organize outings and gatherings, and continue sharing their journey for years to come.
Close to home
We prioritize applicants living in Switzerland and nearby regions to create a strong, living community. Inland adoptions also allow the pups to join their new home at the right age and avoid long travel in this sensitive time.
International
European applications are occasionally possible when the situation is an excellent fit. Puppies are never shipped and must be collected in person. We strongly advise against traveling by plane with a young puppy in the hold.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I choose my puppy ?
We always take your preferences into account, whether you have a preference for a male, a female or even a particular puppy. However, we also account for how each puppy matches your situation, experience and expectations, and our breeding program’s needs.
Why don't you work on a "first come, first served" basis ?
We do take it into account. But every litter is different, and so is every family. Rather than rewarding whoever contacted us first, we focus on finding the best match for this particular litter. We also prioritize applicants living nearby, and families willing to accept a breeding partnership.
What happens if there are less puppies than expected ?
Nature always has the final say. If there aren’t enough puppies for everyone on the waiting list, applicants simply remain on the list for a future litter. Because no deposit is taken before birth, there is no financial risk.
What if I change my mind ?
Joining the waiting list is completely free and doesn’t commit you to adopting a puppy. You are free to join other waiting lists as long as you keep us informed about it. If for any reason you are no longer waiting for a puppy from us, please let us know so we can remove you from the list.
Once you’ve reserved a puppy by paying the deposit, it becomes non-refundable.
How often can I visit ?
We offer two time slots per week for applicants to visit. You are welcome and encouraged to come as often as you wish. During this time, we do some socialization exercises, answer questions, share advice for later or just watch the little angels take a nap. It’s also an opportunity for you to meet other applicants and get to know each other better.
Will my puppy be house-trained ?
Our puppies already begin learning everyday routines and cleanliness, but they’re still babies. House training, walking on a leash and basic manners continue once they arrive in their new homes. We’ll happily guide you through those first weeks.
How are the puppies socialized ?
We take inspiration and guidance from the Puppy Culture program. Our puppies are gradually and age-appropriately exposed to all kinds of…
- Sounds (everyday sounds, animals, alarms, thunder, fireworks…)
- Textures (wet, unstable, noisy…)
- People (many different adults, children, strange clothes and accessories…)
- Dogs and other animals (depending on the opportunities we get)
- Places (garden, forest, lake, city, store, street…)
They also start learning early the basics of a well-behaved and balanced dog, such as patience, self-control and problem solving.
Do you recommend pet insurance ?
Absolutely. Unexpected veterinary expenses will certainly happen throughout a dog’s life. We strongly recommend taking out pet insurance while your puppy is still young, before any potential health conditions appear. They are much cheaper than for humans and definitely worth it. Some insurances also cover prevention costs such as vaccinations and deworming.
Do I need previous experience ?
Not necessarily. While previous experience with large or primitive dogs is definitely a plus, what matters most is your willingness to learn, your lifestyle and your commitment to your future dog. Many of our owners are discovering wolfalikes for the first time, and we’re here to guide them every step of the way.
What happens if, at any point, I can no longer keep my dog?
Life can sometimes take unexpected turns. If you ever find yourself unable to care for your Edelwolf, we ask that you contact us first. We’ll always do our best to help find the most appropriate solution, whether that’s offering advice, assisting with rehoming or welcoming the dog back ourselves to find them a new family.
By contract, you are not allowed to resell your dog for a price or surrender them to a shelter or association. They are not things and they will always have a home with us for as long as they need it.
What should I feed my dog ?
We advise against food containing too much grain, but beyond that, it’s up to you. We generally feed kibble for sensitive digestion with some canned meat. We encourage you to feed raw meat (BARF or prey model) which is better for your dog’s overall health and more suited to these breeds, but you should know it comes at a cost, as it is much more expensive and logistically complex. It also requires more attention to proper hygiene and nutritional balance.
Can I meet your dogs before applying ?
Of course, and you will have the opportunity when you visit, which is a requirement for anyone living in Switzerland. Meeting our adult dogs gives you a much better idea of what living with a wolfalike is really like and helps you decide whether they’re the right fit for you. However, you probably won’t get to meet the father of the litter in person, as we generally use studs from other breeders, often in other countries.
Will you still be available after adoption?
Absolutely. Whether you have a question two weeks, two months or ten years later, you’re always welcome to contact us. We genuinely enjoy following the lives of our puppies and watching them grow within their families. Knowing about their development and health also helps us gather important information for our breeding program.
