Adopting a puppy

Everything you need to know about our adoption process

Welcome to the pack

We’re thrilled that you’re considering welcoming one of our beautiful puppies into your home. Our adoption process is designed to ensure that each puppy finds the perfect forever home, where they will be loved and well cared for. We need to make sure you’re ready to take on a new life in your home, and however cute those little paws are, that you’re not only here for them. The puppy phase is very short, and after that you will get a hungry velociraptor wreaking havoc in your home, followed by a loyal and affectionate wolfy friend.

Step 1 – First contact

The first step is very easy! You just need to fill the form right here so that we know you’re interested in adopting and can keep you updated through email. Additionally, you’re welcome to make a less formal first contact through Facebook, Instagram or email.

Step 2 – Getting to know each other

Before you’re officially accepted on the waiting list, there’s a few things you’ll need to do.

#1

Learn about the breed

We’ve prepared a page where you’ll get all the basic information you’ll need about wolfalike dogs.

#2

Fill out a questionnaire

This is as much for you as it is for us. Take a step back and evaluate whether you have the right situation to take on a wolfalike puppy.

#3

Visit us

We require any applicants living in Switzerland to come and visit our kennel and meet our dogs. This allows you to get to know them and see where your pup will grow up, and allows us to get to know you. This step can be simplified for applicants living abroad.

Step 3 – The waiting list

If you complete these steps successfully, you’ll be on the official waiting list and you will join our Whatsapp community and our “Waiting list” group, where you can chat with other applicants. While you wait, here’s a few things to keep in mind :

There’s no order

We don’t work with a “First come first served” system. We place puppies depending on many criterias that we can tell you more about if you’re interested. You could wait for your puppy for three years, or contact us right when we have one that needs a furever home.

It’s OK  to join other lists, BUT…

Since you don’t know when you’ll get a puppy, it’s ok for us if you join other breeders’ waiting lists if you want. Just keep us updated about it, and inform us as soon as you know that you won’t be getting a puppy from us, whatever the reason.

Step 4 – Your litter

Once a litter of puppies is born, we will contact the applicants we think are best suited to this litter. Here are some answers to the questions you might have.

Can I choose my puppy ?

The pups will be genetically tested as soon as possible and progressively attributed to each applicant, based on their personal preference, the pup’s genetics and temper and other criteria. You won’t always get to choose your pup, but you can trust us (and destiny) to give you the right one 😉

Will I get updates ?

You will join a Whatsapp group dedicated to this litter where you will get regular updates on how the pups are doing. There will also be plenty of updates on our social media, where you’ll get to see what kind of exercises we do with them.

Will I get to visit ?

We encourage weekly visits from our applicants, as it allows you to get to know your pup and the adult dogs a bit more, and it’s a good socialisation exercise for the puppies to see lots of different people during this sensitive phase of their development.

When can I bring my puppy home ?

Considering the slower development of primitive dogs, we keep them at the kennel until 12 weeks of age to give them the best chances in this crucial stage of development. Exceptions might be made for experienced owners based on our own judgment. In most cases, puppies leaving Switzerland won’t be legally able to travel before 15 weeks of age.

How much does a puppy cost ?

We can give you the exact price upon request, but our puppies are more expensive than the average. Their price is calculated to cover the litters’ and the bitch’s life-long expenses, and is based on the Swiss cost of living. Even at that high price, we gain very little to no benefit for all the work we do.

Do you ask for a security deposit ?

Yes, but not before you’ve been selected for a litter. If in the end it turns out there is no puppy for you through no fault of yours, we will give you your deposit back.

Step 5 – Adoption day

It’s finally here! Here’s what’s gonna happen.

Paperwork

On adoption day, you will sign the adoption contract and get your puppy’s pedigree and Swiss passport with up-to-date vaccinations as well as a puppy guide that will help you through the first months of his or her life.

Puppy package

In your puppy package you’ll find a leash, collar, harness and a toy or blanket that smells like home, in order to make the transition easier.

Step 6 – Enjoy the rest of your dog’s life !

We will be here for you every step of the way.

Community

From now on, you belong in the House of the Wolf community. Litterally, since you never left the Whatsapp community or your litter’s group ! Don’t hesitate to share your dog’s goofiest, happiest, saddest and hardest moment, or ask the community for advice.

Events

You’ll be invited to all of our community events, such as yearly gatherings and much more !

Rehoming

If at any point and for any reason you decide to part ways with your dog, we will take care of rehoming him. No pup of ours will end up in a shelter.
